  What is Clinical Research? Clinical research is a process to study the safety and effectiveness of new drugs or other treatments. Clinical research may be carried out in a number of phases, where each phase has its own goal. Phase I clinical trials are done on 20-80 people to see how safe the drug(s) are, how they work with other medicines, and what doses can be tolerated. Phase II clinical trials are done on 100-300 people to see if the drug works better than current therapies for specific diseases or conditions.
